FIFTEEN

We had dinner every night that week. And almost every night the next week too. We didn’t talk about what it meant.

Better not to overanalyze, Tabitha.

Nor did we discuss what it meant that he came home to my apartment when he got off late shifts, where Pancake and Daisy and I were usually sprawled on the couch with popcorn and something on Netflix. Some nights he brought Chinese because he always got hungry when he worked late.

I supposed I always got hungry when he worked late too. I sure as heck didn’t turn down the egg rolls and lo mein he brought with him. Or the occasional spicy pork with crab rangoon on the side.

Sex was on the menu nearly every night, except the ones where I passed out before he could say post shower nookie. Not that he ever would say that particular phrase.

We both enjoyed heavy doses of dirty talk. At this point, I was so primed by him I could practically come just from him whispering how much he’d fantasized about fucking me all day long.

He said that a lot.

Pancake and Daisy liked our routine too. I would be forever grateful that Pancake hadn’t been too small to start off on regular puppy food. I had no clue how Brady and I would’ve dealt with formula or bottle feeding. Thankfully, we hadn’t had to worry about any of that, and for any other mom needs he had, Daisy was doing a great job.

They curled up together and snuggled happily and hardly ever squabbled, except when Pancake dared to steal some of Daisy’s kibble. A sharp growl and a nose nudge later and Pancake was relegated to his rightful space as the junior member of the household.

Households, plural. We weren’t living together. We had our own spaces, our own lives. Just it was handy as hell having my Hot Cop just across the hall.

Even if I was well aware that the talk about us hadn’t died down. Au contraire. It had just gotten sneakier.

My notoriety had led to some fun new things though. Macy and Vee over at Brewed Awakening had offered to put some of my desserts in their case in return for featuring a brew of the day from Macy’s shop. I fully understood this was Macy giving a leg up to the new kid, because she surely did not need my product placement. She had more business than she could handle.

To be honest, lately I did too, and if I hadn’t had Mickey and Honey working for me now, I would’ve drowned days ago. They both worked long hours without complaint, although Mickey was still taking some class for her degree and needed time to study. Honey volunteered with kids and needed time for that too, but they were both eager to make their schedules mesh with mine.

If Brady’s enthusiastic nightstick wasn’t gift enough, his sister and her friend coming into my life had been a godsend. I was still getting tons of orders from displaying my flower cupcakes during Valentine Fest.
